RELEASED FIRST LANGUAGE DICTIONARY GESTUAL

The dictionary is intended for more than 100,000 individuals who are deaf community in Portugal.

The Porto Editora launches today, Tuesday, the first dictionary of Portuguese Sign Language (LGP) for the more than 100,000 individuals who are deaf community in Portugal. The dictionary is written by Ana Bela Baltazar, LGP interpreter for several years, and comes with a DVD-ROM. The project was worked for three years and aims to respond “to a great demand for a tool of this kind without responses market “, as explained by the author to the Journal News. “Deaf people generally dominate badly the Portuguese. I hope that with this work, to them easier,” also said Ana Bela Baltazar. The Portuguese Sign Language Dictionary offers over 5200 entries, all of them accompanied by illustrative images – about 15 000 -. and the description of all the gestures enriched with icons and arrows This information is complemented with the illustration of the sign alphabet, numerals and main settings, and the list of all the words that undergo change in the Spelling Agreement and respective new spelling.
